Bargeboards could be considered part of the fascia of the roof and if the rof is not gabled or pitched there may be no bargeboards as such. On gabled roofs however the bargeboards are attached to the gable ends. Apart from the protective and structural functions they are often a more ornamental part of the roof than the fascias, especially since they can also be found on dormers or gabled roof windows.
As with fascias bargeboards are often made from wood but can also be made from metal sheeting or from uPVC. They can often be carved or shaped more decoratively than are fascia boards.
Bargeboards can be added to a roof when a loft conversion, conservatory or other extension is made to a house.
